Character pair: Aunt Alexandra and Atticus
To me, Aunt Alexandra and Atticus have a very interesting and unusual relationship. Of course they're siblings, and like all brothers and sisters they act quite differently towards each other that they wouldn't act around other people. But one thing they both have in common is that they both deeply care for the children, in which they would do anything to assist them in any way. Together, they want the kids to grow successfully and proper in life, no matter what. Even though they have different choices and ways, they seem to get it together in the end. They also can occasionly have some arguments and can disagree at times, but you can tell that deep down they both care about eachother.
However, with their similarities, they have their differences. Together, they present foils in the most explicit manners. They both have distinct methods when it comes to caring for Jem and Scout. Atticus thinks the best way to raise his kids is by teaching them the importance of understanding. But Aunt Alexandra likes to think otherwise. To her, the social aspect is more important. She thinks Scout should dress and act like a lady, but Atticus could care less. For Aunt Alexandra, she is popular in which can a reason why she has different reasoning when it comes to raising these kids and disagreeing with Atticus.
Aunt Alexandra to me, is an alter ego to Scout. I think this, because their relationship is very inadequate. But I feel as though they are very similar to one another. They both don't like to change their minds, and to be ordered around. As Scout is getting older, she starts getting more opionative and independent just like Aunt Alexandra. The effect she has brought on Scout isn't really positive or good for the matter. She seems to take over too much, and just annoy Scout with her attitude. As for her father Atticus, I think that Scout and him are both foils of eachother. Atticus is an easily going and an understanding person who Scout admires very much. Their relationship is very close and they tell eachother many things. Since Atticus is the person he is, Scout can do many things others might not be able to do, and she likes the fact that she doesn't have to be kept from it.
