"All men are created equal" - Jem
"It ain't fair
....he didn't deserve this
why don't people see?
....the defandant is not guilty
he's quiet, respectable, humble...
...but no one cares
it's cruel...
not all of them lie...
not all of them are immoral...
...but yet people think they are
it makes me sick
we're all the same
yet folks don't see nothin' different...
but
...all men are created equal
I don't understand why we all can't see that... "

I don't know why my poem looks like that... ugh
ReplyDeleteExplanation: For the poem, I wanted to write in Jem's point of view during the Tom Robinson trial. When he was watching the trial with Scout, he really thought that they were going to win easily, but after they lost and convicted him guilty he was angry. Jem was sad, and acted acrimonious for a period of time. He would complain and ask questions why he was found guilty, and why people wouldn't believe Tom that he was innocent. Therefore, I chose a few phrases and words that would emphasize his feelings and thoughts on racial discrimination.
