The Elite A Selection Novel: Week of 10/27/14

Prompt: What surprises you in this story?
Pages Read: 80-120

While reading this book, a lot of things have surprised me. For one, I didn't quite know that this story took place in the future. In the first book, I don't remember reading anything that hinted the setting until now. I found this out when, America's dad was talking about how after the fourth world war ruined economy, and the system. Last time I checked there were only two world wars of the 20th century. Of coarse now that I know I have discovered this new information, I have actually understood the story more. It makes sense that they are split into ranks of 1,2,3,4,5,6,etc. Not to mention that America didn't know what Halloween which is unusual, at least for me. Turns out, Halloween was a holiday that was frequently celebrated in the past, but not anymore. According to, Prince Maxon who researched it with a computer. When he used the computer, America seemed really amazed, and shocked, when she saw a computer. From this I realized that this took place in the future, in which a lot of things were different.

Not only that  but what also surprised me was when Aspen, America's former love, was seen with Celeste, the girl who ruined America's dress,  and hated her to the fullest. First of all, I didn't even know that Aspen talked to the other girls in the Elite. I thought he only wanted to speak with America, but I guess he liked to speak with others as well. From what America saw, Celeste was flirting with Aspen, which gave her pain in her chest. To me, Aspen and Celeste seem like a weird pair, but I guess things can change. After all, America strongly disliked the Prince at first, and now she might potentionally be in love with him.

With all this drama, and such, there have been many more events that have lead me to gasp in shock. However, I really think that those specific situations I've listed are the ones that really made my eyes go wide. America has really been annoying to me lately, with everything such as not having any idea who she wants to be with, which is actually one of the biggest questions that probably lurks on everyone's mind. She keeps leading both Aspen, and Prince Maxon on, and at this point I just don't know what's going to happen. Whoever she chooses, will for sure, be one of the most biggest bombshells.
