The Maze Runner: Week of 10/28/13

Prompt: What have you learned about life from what you're reading?
Pages read: 162-200

After reading a lot from this book, I think I actually learned a lot about life. Even though this story is some type of fiction, it gives lessons, and teaches you about some things. Some things I learned can be really helpful, now and the future. For instance in the beginning when Thomas enters the Glade he is the new kid. Or "green bean" as they called him. At first he was confused, lonely, and no one listened to him. But as a few days passed he began to do and achieve things before anyone, and most of them have been there for years or months. I mean honestly, Thomas was the first to survive the maze, and he's only been there a few days! Some of the Gladers wouldn't even dare to enter the maze, not even to save their friend. Thomas saved Alby, while he entered the maze. Sure he broke the number one rule, but he took that risk. Which is what I learned about life, that some risks are worth taking.

Something else I learned about life from what I'm reading is that with hard work, and determination you can accomplish your dreams. Now you may ask, what does this have to with the book? Well Thomas always wanted to be a runner. He was determined to be one. But everyone thought he was crazy, and stupid, especially since he's been there for a short time. However, when Thomas had entered the maze earlier in the book he was positive, worked a lot, and did everything he could for him, Alby, and Minho to survive. Now when they did survive they had a meeting, discussing if Thomas should be punished or not for breaking the rule. When it was Minho's turn to have a say in the meeting he said that Thomas should be a runner. After hard work, determination, and strength he soon became. Which is something I learned about life.

I've learned a lot about life but those are the two main things I've kept on my mind. As I'm getting older, life starts to get more harder than before. More work, more expected of you, responsibility. So I use these motivational messages to help. Like the first message, risks are worth taking. No matter how big the risk it can actually effect you in a good way, but that's your choice. For Thomas it did, since Alby lived to see another day because of him. As for the second message with hard work and determination you can accomplish something or your dreams. For example when Thomas worked hard, and was determined he accomplished of what he's always wanted to be which is a runner. These messages are very helpful, and can actually make a difference in your life you listened to them.

This represents basically all the people who entered the Glade, and what they had to dealt with since they're stuck there and have no memory.

  1. This sounds like an exciting book. It certainly does have life lessons. I do agree that some risks are worth taking. Thomas seems very brave and he sure did prove those other people wrong. This was an amazing blog post.

  2. This sounds like a really interesting book.! I really liked how you got that risks are worth it. This book seems like an underdog kind of story, where Thomas starts off at the bottom and with risk and determination he can achieve more than anyone. I think I will have to read this book.!

  3. The Maze Runner definitely has a lot of life lessons that we can learn from. Ever since I started reading the book when I have a tough time I put myself in Thomas's shoes. Thomas has been through so much already and just think about what he's been through makes me realize how exhausted he must have felt, emotionally and physically. I love your blog!
