This Quarter has been really busy, and just chaotic, but I've managed to accomplish many things which is astonishing. In my 40 books challenge , I've read about 14 books these past months, some including from the summer. I think I've really done a better job with managing my time, then with last year. When we first started the 40 books Challenge last year in the summer/fall of 2013 I barely read anything. In that year, I think I only really read 20 books in all, which is a little compared to how much I've read in these past few months. Not only that, but usually everything I chose to read was fiction, so I didn't really have any experience with other genres until now. This month I was able to read non-fiction, biographies, and science-fiction which actually surprises me. If you told me I had to read these genres, I would complain and tell you that I'd rather not. Now I am starting to read books that are challenging, new, and different.
Another great change that I've experienced is my writing technique when it comes to blogs. Before, my blogs were just basically my opinions, thoughts, and some information that just didn't connect. Now, I have learned to write with imagery, characterization, textual evidence, and interpretation. In those blogs, I've also repeated the word "I" a lot which drifts off from the actual prompt. My blogs recently, have now actually been more focused, and now show more understanding of what I'm trying to explain.
Research is another improvement I've been working on. In seventh grade, I didn't really have any research skills. When it came to citing my sources, I had no idea what I was doing. As I was younger citing sources to me was just copying & pasting the links. Now, I use a citation machine, and have actually been doing pretty well with sorting all the things such as title, author, date, publisher, etc. With all the research we've been doing this quarter, I've seen a major difference, and have noticed that my work looks much more organized and professional.
