So far in this book there has been a lot of imagery from the setting, characters, clothing, and objects. For example, an excerpt from the story states, "I obeyed, running back of the room, toward the clusters of girls huddled together. Some of them were weeping; others were staring into space in shock."This kind of shows whats going on, how people looked like, and their actions. Plus it also stood out to me because this was one of the shocking and interesting points in the story. This is also a type of literary style or figurative language because it is told in first person, and the narrator is telling and showing what she saw, and her movements.
Another part of figurative language or literary style the author uses is when it comes to one of the characters dialogue. For example, a piece of dialogue from one of the characters Prince Maxon, " That is an unfair statement. You are all dear to me. It is simply a matter of discovering who shall be the dearest." This characters vocabulary is kind of different from the other characters in the story. Prince Maxon sort of talks fancy, most likely for reason being that he is a prince. Which is why this character has his own style of speech.
The author especially shows character development in the story. For example, the main character America Singer in the beginning has a hatred for the prince and only enters the selection for the money, in which she doesn't want to stay any longer there. But later on, her motives start to change. She ends up being best friends with the Prince Maxon, and starts developing feelings for him. Plus she just might want to stay in the selection, for him.
