Darker Still: Week of 4/22/14

Prompt: What does this book remind you of?
Pages Read: 134-240

This book actually reminds me of another book called "The Shadows" based on the Books of Elsewhere series. I remember reading this book in sixth grade for lit studies. I think their are many similarities between the two even though they have their differences. In fact, "The Shadows" was one of my favorite books.

Some things that are similar between the two books is that in the book, "The Shadows" there were antique paintings just like in "Darker Still". These paintings also played a big part in the story and how they were strange. In "The Shadows" the details in the paintings changed as well and you could travel in them too. The book I'm reading, "Darker Still" the main character Natalie notices how the details in the painting of Lord Denbury change just like Olive the main character in "The Shadows". In fact, in these two books they both have two somewhat important characters that are trapped in the paintings. In my book it would be Lord Denbury while in "The Shadows' it would be Morton Olive's friend.

However, these two books take place in different times. In "Darker Still" it takes place in 1882. While in, "The Shadows" it takes place in a more modern time. But these two books do involve magic and such. They're both spooky in a way, but the magic they use is slightly different from eachothers. Although still use it for the same reasons. I've read, "The Shadows" and I must say it's a really good book and I reccomend it!
