Prompt: What is the book about?
Pages Read: 0-65
Well so far the book is about two siblings, Hansel and Gretel and their scary adventures. In the beginning of the story before Hansel and Gretel are introduced it tells a story about "Faithful Johannes". Faithful Johannes was a faithful servant as written in his name. Basically, he made a promise to the King to protect his son. When the king died Faithful Johannes kept his word and protected the new king from dying, by falling in love with a woman who any man she marries dies. When the king didn't listen the servant did everything he could to save him and tell him the truth. However, the king still didn't listen, and grew angry with Johannes so they took him to the dungeon. Finally when the faithful servant explained everything, they believed him however he still turned to stone and died.
Then that's when Hansel and Gretel are introduced. Eventually, the queen and king had children known as Hansel and Gretel of coarse. When the king was weeping and talking about the Faithful Johannes he touched the statue, and something surprising happen. Johannes spoke he said, "There is a way king, to rescue me from this rock, if you truly wish it." Then of coarse the king was willing to do anything asking the servant what he should do. Johannes replied, "You must cut off the heads of your children, and smear my statue with their blood. And then, and only then will I return to life. Eventually the king agreed to this and did just that. Violent right? Anyway, the queen later found out and was crying but later understood. Surprisingly then, Hansel and Gretel came back to life. However they feared that their parents would try to kill them again so left the kingdom in search for a new family. Which is how their scary adventures began.
So far, Hansel and Gretel have faced a children eating women who they at first was an innocent lady who fed them delicious food, and wouldn't ask them to do anything. Little did they know that was because she wanted them nice, plump and weak so they couldn't escape and would make a delicious meal for herself. The wicked women trapped them, and put one of siblings into the oven. Little did she know she was soon to be tricked and enter the oven herself. Luckily Hansel, and Gretel survived that and decided they should search for a new parent. Of coarse there's much more surprises to come..

I am reading this book too! It is so good, and you made it sound even better. I liked the way you explained what was happening very well.
ReplyDeleteI read this book last year and it was really good! In the last paragraph were you talking about the gingerbread house lady? I think that was one of my favorite parts in the book. You did a great job with describing what was happening in the book and if I hadn't read it before I would really know what's going on. Great blog!
ReplyDeleteThe book seems a tad bit complex. I remember when the author of the book had visited our school, I had told him I would read his book. I still have not gotten around to doing that yet, but I plan on it!
