A Tale Dark & Grimm: Week of 12/16/13

Prompt: How did the reading make you feel?
Pages Read: 65-100

After reading a couple of more pages it's made feel quite a few emotions. For example when I read the chapter or part of the Seven Swallows I didn't even know what that meant. But later on, I found out that there was man who wanted a daughter badly but instead got seven sons. So when, Hansel and Gretel were looking for parents once again they found the man and woman. Hansel and Gretel didn't know about those seven sons at the time because they were somewhere else that their father requested them to go. Then all of a sudden, the man or father wished something dreadful against his sons. This made me angry in a way because those were his sons and he should've been a good parent but instead he decided to wish that his sons became birds. He acted like they didn't exist anymore. Hansel and Gretel of coarse knew nothing about this yet until they saw their "new mother" weeping. Now when it said that the mother was weeping and devastated it made me sad. It made me sad because unlike the father the mother cared for her sons, and loved them. So when they were gone and nowhere to be found it broke her heart. But luckily, the two siblings saved the seven boys and then those seven brothers went back to their family. Which made me glad, in fact I was really happy because I thought that chapter would end in a bad ending but it didn't.

In another chapter it  made me really angry, and disappointed. It was about after the Seven Swallows Hansel and Gretel left and ended up in somewhat a forest. There was a tree that talked, and told them that they could have anything, and eat the fruits and plants but couldn't hurt the animals or mess up anything. Gretel listened, but Hansel not so much, she obeyed what the tree said but Hansel didn't. He would hunt animals and kill them, in fact there was a point where he just left them on the ground covered in blood. This of coarse made me angry, the fact that Hansel could have anything but instead killed animals causing trouble and mischief was ridiculous. Poor Gretel was starting to get scared of what her brother had become, she then found out that her brother was dead. Now this was really shocking to me. It was indeed really disappointing and horrible that he died. But it made me feel as though Hansel would come back to life later in the story. I mean the book is about Hansel and Gretel's dangerous adventures so Hansel has to be alive right?

Although it is barely the beginning to me, I feel like I've already experienced so many emotions. But I can guarantee that there will be more frightening adventures, and shocking surprises that will come which would of coarse effect my feelings and reactions. However, isn't that what stories and books are supposed to do? Make you feel a certain way, react to it? For example in, "The Giver" it made me feel so many strong emotions and I had a lot of reactions in each chapter, and I'm pretty sure others felt that way too. I'm really looking forward to reading more of this story, and what it has in store.

  1. I liked how you clearly expressed your emotions about this book. Last year I read this book and I'm hoping to read the third book The Grimm Conclusion. If you like this book series I recommend the Sisters Grimm series. I'm going to use that series as part of my 40-Book Challenge. I liked your picture at the end and your graphic matches your blog. Nice Job
